European Forest Week
European Forest Week was announced from 20th – 24th of October 2008 by forest ministers from European countries on the occasion of holding the Fifth Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (MCPFE), which took place in Warsaw from 5th - 7th of November 2007. This week should increase the visibility of forests and the forest-based sector, raise awareness about the importance of forests for the protection of the environment and its contribution to development of economy and society in Europe.
The objectives of European Forest Week are to:
- Increase the visibility of forest-based sector and emphasize the importance of forests for environment protection and the development of economy in society.
- Raise public awareness about the importance of forests when mitigating climate change, providing fresh water and protecting the environment.
- Engage other sectors in a participatory dialogue on forest related issues.
- Support other events organized in various European countries by different partners including public and private sector.
PAWS – Pedagogic work in the forest
Project financed by Leonardo da Vinci programme. This project established a platform for creating a common concept of training of forest pedagogues in Europe as well as for international cooperation and exchange of experiences among forest pedagogues in Europe. The outputs of this project were a textbook, tour planner (CD for a forest walk planning) and a course manual. All products of this project are available on http://www.paws-europe.org/

CASE FOREST
„Forest pedagogics as a form of education towards sustainable development” within the international project CASE FOREST TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT is organized with a support of European Union as a part of Lifelong Learning Program.
Project objectives are to:
- Raise awareness of pedagogical employees about economic, environmental, social and cultural values of forests.
- Disseminate CASE FOREST methodology as a form of education towards sustainable development to cooperating countries.
- Test CASE FOREST methodology in particular countries.
- Contribute to an improvement of communication among foresters and public.
By using CASE FOREST methodology in schools, following will be achieved:
- Pupil’s interest in forest and nature will be raised. Their creativity and joy from learning will be increased.
- The ability of children to value their own decisions and responsibility towards forest and nature will be enhanced.
- Teachers will get the inspiration for teaching outside the classroom environment, they can teach in the forest and students can learn from the forest in cooperation with forestry specialists during the teaching process.
